  • What to do for water damage from clean water

    • Notify your insurance company.
    • Call Griffith Carpet cleaning at 973-831-6103.
    • If possible shut off the source of running water.
    • Turn off electric circuit breakers for wet areas of the building, when access to the power distribution panel is safe from electrical shock.
    • Turn off gas if possible if any gas furnaces, hot water heaters or appliance got wet.
    • Remove as much excess water as possible.
    • Wipe excess water from wood furniture after removing tabletop and lamps items.
    • Remove and prop up wet upholstery cushions for even and faster drying.
    • Place aluminum foil or wood blocks between furniture legs and wet carpet.
    • Remove to a safe, dry place any paintings, art objects, documents, computers and other valuable materials or sensitive to moisture.
    • Use wooden clothespins to keep furniture skirting off damp floors.
    • Hang draperies with coated hangers and avoid any contact with wet carpeting, floors or upholstery.
    • Hang furs and leather goods or clothes to dry separately at room temperature.
    • Do not enter rooms with standing water where electrical shock hazards may exist.
    • Do not try and restart your furnace or hot water heater if they got wet. Call your utility service provider to check them out.
    • Do not enter affected areas if electrical switches, outlets, circuit breakers or electrical equipment are exposed to water. Always avoid electrical shock hazards.
    • Do not leave newspapers, books, magazine or other colored items on wet carpets, floors or upholstery to cause staining.
    • Do not leave Oriental / Area rugs or other colored rugs on wet wall-to-wall carpets to cause staining.
    • Do not use your home vacuum cleaner to remove water, possibly causing electrical shock or damage to the vacuum cleaner.
    • Do not use radio, TVs or other appliances while standing on wet floors or carpets especially not on wet concrete floors.

    • We will always ask the customer to show us any special concerns that they may have in the areas to be cleaned such as;
    • We will always ask the customer how old the carpets are.
    • We will always ask the customer if there are any spots or stains.
    • We will always ask the customer if they have noticed any bad seams.
    • We will always ask the customer if the carpet is rippled in any areas.
    • We will always ask the customer if there are any pets or children or security issues, due to the fact that we will need to leave a door or window open to bring our equipment in and out of the work area.
    • We will always discuss with the customer the different cleaning packages and options that we offer.
    • We will always explain to the customer that any furniture that we move will have foil paper or styrofoam blocks placed beneat the feet to help protect against stainning.
    • We will always show the customer the areas we are cleaning while we are cleaning them, in order to let them see the progress and to answer any questions that they may have.
    • We will offer the customer our advice on how to keep the areas that we just cleaned cleaner longer.
    • We will offer the customer our knowledge and advice on using stain protectors.
    • We will always show the customer that any of our hoses or equipment when crossing tile or hardwood floors will have a tarp beneath them to protect the surface.
    • We will always show the custommer that while we are cleaning in your home, business or property our workers will wear protective booties over their shoes.
    • We will always explain to the customer about drying times.
